Immediate Needs
We collect food and offerings for the Des Moines Area Religiousa Council's (DMARC) food pantry on the third Sunday of each month when we celebrate Holy Communion.
DMARC can purchase food from wholesalers for a fraction of the cost of retail groceries. Cash and check gifts provide the most food by far.
If you prefer to bring food items, DMARC's Most Needed Food Item (List Updated for Nutrition Value) is an excellent guide:
Most needed items include:
- 100% juice (tomato, orange, or vegetable in a can or plastic bottle)
- fruit canned in water or 100% juice (not heavy syrup)
- canned beans
- dry beans
- peanut butter
- canned meat (tuna or chicken in water)
- whole grain dry pasta or egg noodles
- brown rice (instant or regular)
- vegetable soup (low sodium)
- whole grain crackers (wheat saltines)
- canned spaghetti
- hot sauce
- hot cereal
- oatmeal (plain, no sugar added) (instant or regular)
- cold cereal (whole grain Cheerios, Wheat Chex, Wheaties, granola or Shredded Wheat preferred)
