Since before Des Moines was a city, this congregation has been serving the community and its people in Christ’s name.
If you have an interest in serving others, in discovering God’s love for you, and in belonging to a community which supports, nurtures, and challenges you, we invite you to visit First Church.
You will find a diverse community of people who have chosen to follow Jesus Christ and to support one another in the journey of faith. We seek to live out Christ’s teachings in the modern world–
to care for the poor,
not to cast the first stone,
to turn the other cheek,
not to judge others,
to share with others the difference Jesus Christ has made in our lives,
not to hate those who hate us,
to welcome the outsider and the stranger.
We are "a living past in a living present", as Michael Ramsey once defined the church.
