Prayer
"Pray without ceasing." This is the foundation of our life at First United Methodist Church.
You are welcome to submit your prayer requests. By simply asking, your needs will be uplifted in prayer by members of First United Methodist Church. Make your needs known in the way your most comfortable:
- Write a note on the Prayer Request Card located in the pews or by asking an Usher.
- Call the church office (515-244-6209) or any member of the church
- Email the church ( info@dmfirstchurch.org ), one of the pastors, or a member of the church
- Talk to someone at the church before or after worship
You are invited to be a part of our prayer ministry. Specific prayer opportunities include:
- Prayer Request Cards - located in the pews. This card can be filled out during the worship service and placed in the offering plate or in one of the Prayer Request boxes near the exits of the sanctuary.
- Prayer Team - meets immediately following the church service in the chancel area to lift prayer requests to God.
- Prayer-chain Intercessory Prayer Ministry - if you have a request or wish to join the prayer chain telephone callers, call Kay Collier 271-6643
- E-mail prayer requests - if you prefer, send your request to Kevin LaGree at pastor@dmfirstchurch.org and it will be forwarded to the prayer-chain intercessory prayer ministry.
- Circle of Love (Intercessory Prayer Group at Wesley Acres)
- This new group meets regularly to pray for persons after their name has been shared with our prayer chain. Each person’s name stays on the group’s prayer list until the issue which placed them on the prayer chain is resolved.
- The prayer group meets at 10:11 a.m. on Mondays at Wesley Acres. The unique starting time is intended to help us all remember when we begin!
- The group meets every Monday except for holidays. To participate in the group, you do not have to attend every week. However, regular participation is expected.
- If you have an interest in participating in this prayer group, please contact Pastor Kevin (244-6209). Similarly, if you have a concern you would like to have prayed for weekly by the prayer group, you should also contact Pastor Kevin.
- Prayer Shawls
- Prayer shawls are lovingly knitted and crocheted by members of the congregation. The shawls are blessed during a worship service. Then they are delivered to persons in need of the congregation’s prayers.
- This group meets monthly to discuss the ministry and pray for those who will receive the shawls. They also teach beginners!
- Vision Prayer
- Each Tuesday at noon in the church chapel, prayers are offered specifically for discernment and wisdom for our church and its future.
- Weekly, a small group meets in the church chapel to pray for ongoing ministries of our church and for guidance for ways to share the timeless message of God's love in the twenty-first century.
- We hope you can join us, occasionally or regularly! We have a short time of sharing followed by conversational prayer ending in the Lord's Prayer. No special training or skill is required—just a desire to seek what God wants. Currently we meet at 1:00 on Tuesdays, and are finished before 2:00. If you are interested, please contact Richard Nordin (210-3498) or Ruth Francis (279-2333). If you'd like to take part, but the time doesn't work for you, be sure to let us know.
